Visas de inmigrante: tarjeta de residencia o green card Las personas con habilidades extraordinarias puedan solicitar una visa EB-1. While there were many American musicians who were influential during the 1960s such as Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, and The Eagles, arguably none were as influential as The Beatles. Consisting of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, helped change the face of popular culture of the 1960ââ¬â¢s through their music, image, and influence on the counterculture of the time. The Beatles originally started off as The Quarrymen in 1957, headed by John Lennon and consisting of other musicians. That same year Paul McCartney was invited to join the group by John Lennon, and eventually joined by George Harrison. In 1958 the groups name was changed to Johnny and the Moondogs (rolling stone article). Two years in 1960 later another member was added and the group was now named The Beatles. Maybe youââ¬â¢re scared to let anyone read your latest short story. Or perhaps itââ¬â¢s worse than that ââ¬â you find yourself agonising over every email that you write. Youââ¬â¢re not alone. Most writers ââ¬â even those who make a living from their craft ââ¬â lack confidence at times. Writing is, after all, a daunting thing to do: youââ¬â¢re putting down your thoughts on the page and hoping that theyââ¬â¢ll be worthy of someone elseââ¬â¢s time and attention. A lack of confidence, though, can be crippling. It leads writers to give up before theyââ¬â¢ve even begun ââ¬â or to fret for hours over the simplest of writing tasks. Whether youââ¬â¢re struggling to get to grips with grammar or preparing to launch your third novel, you can become more confident. Hereââ¬â¢s how. #1: Practice Writing ââ¬â Regularly As a child, I had piano lessons. I didnââ¬â¢t much like having to practice ââ¬â but I knew that if I didnââ¬â¢t, I wouldnââ¬â¢t get any better. Itââ¬â¢s the same with writing. Some people love writing, others find it tedious: but either way, youââ¬â¢ll find that the more you practice, the more youââ¬â¢ll improve. That could mean: Spending ten minutes free-writing every morning Working through different writing exercises, so you get experience in several forms Deliberately working on the elements of writing that you find hard (e.g. if you write fiction, practice dialogue or description; if you write for work, practice those difficult emails) Writing a weekly post for your blog ââ¬â no excuses! Write from a prompt (a word, phrase, question or image that inspires you) Your writing exercises might be for your eyes only ââ¬â or you might choose to develop them into something more. Author E.J. Newmanââ¬â¢s From Dark Places is a book of short stories that started as pieces written from prompts sent in by her ââ¬Å"story of the month clubâ⬠. #2: Read Widely Youââ¬â¢re probably already reading a lot in your chosen genre or area ââ¬â but try dipping into a book, magazine or blog thatââ¬â¢s very different from what youââ¬â¢d normally choose. Youââ¬â¢ll come across authors who are: Journalistic and factual, giving you the details without making any judgements about them Extremely personal and introspective, writing based on their own experiences Unconventional and creative with their use of language, perhaps coining new words and so on. Thereââ¬â¢s no one ââ¬Å"correctâ⬠way to write a book, a blog post, or an article ââ¬â and the more you read, the more youââ¬â¢ll realise that lots of different styles can be effective. Youââ¬â¢ll learn new techniques, and youââ¬â¢ll also get a better feel for your own voice and style (look at what resonates with you ââ¬â and what turns you off completely). #3: Take Time Over Your Writing If you donââ¬â¢t like writing, or if you find it anxiety-provoking, then you might be tempted to get it over with as quickly as possible. Thatââ¬â¢s not a great way to build your confidence. No writer ââ¬â not even Shakespeare! ââ¬â can produce a perfect piece of work in just one draft. By taking a little extra time to edit your work, youââ¬â¢ll realise that you can: Spot clumsy or ambiguous sentences and correct them Change words that arenââ¬â¢t quite right Fix any typos or spelling mistakes that have crept in I often advise writers to write a basic plan then produce a quick first draft, without worrying too much about quality: that way, they donââ¬â¢t get bogged down trying to perfect the first paragraph. After that, though, itââ¬â¢s important to edit rigorously. Youââ¬â¢ll feel more confident about your work when you know youââ¬â¢ve given it enough time and attention. #4: Learn About Writing Iââ¬â¢ve been writing with serious intent (i.e. hoping to get published!) for thirteen years now ââ¬â half my lifetime. Iââ¬â¢ve read dozens of books and ebooks about writing, Iââ¬â¢ve subscribed to a writing magazine, Iââ¬â¢ve taken several online courses, and Iââ¬â¢ve completed an M.A. in Creative Writing. Obviously, I wouldnââ¬â¢t have progressed very far at all if I didnââ¬â¢t actually write (see #1!) ââ¬â but I learnt a lot about the theory and practice of writing from all these resources. Whether youââ¬â¢re a brand-new writer or an old hand, thereââ¬â¢s something you can learn. Look out for: Blogs on writing (like this one) ââ¬â a great place to start learning for free. Books about your specific area or genre ââ¬â try your library Specialised ebooks and ecourses ââ¬â you might want to start with 100 Writing Mistakes to Avoid Writing conferences where you can attend lectures and workshops Degree programs ââ¬â a big investment of time and money, but a great way to study writing in a thorough and rigorous way, alongside other students #5: Ask For Feedback This one requires a bit of bravery but itââ¬â¢s a great way to give your writing confidence a real boost. Ask someone for feedback. Ideally, pick a writer or tutor who you know and trust ââ¬â you want them to be honest but also thoughtful. Get them to tell you what youââ¬â¢re already doing well (because thereââ¬â¢ll be plenty of good things in your work!) And ask them what you could improve on. I know it can be quite daunting to have your work critiqued but once youââ¬â¢ve edited a piece based on feedback, youââ¬â¢ll be able to have real confidence in it. #6: Share Your Work With an Audience One great way to boost your confidence is to have appreciative readers for your work. But where do you find them? The Web 2.0 era has made publication accessible to anyone with an internet connection. Sites like Blogger.com are free and extremely easy to get started with, and allow you to publish your writing online. (If you start getting serious about blogging, Iââ¬â¢d recommend using WordPress and hosting the blog on your own domain, for maximum control over your work. For all things blogging-related, check out Daily Writing Tipsââ¬â¢s sister blog, Daily Blog Tips.) You might even choose to put together an ebook for people to download and read. You can create this using a word processing program (like Open Office or Microsoft Word) and then convert it to a .pdf file, which can be read on any type of computer and on many devices like Tablet computers and ebook readers. #7: Submit Your Work for Publication One of the best ways to achieve publication is to send a guest post to a big blog. This can be a pretty daunting thing to do but itââ¬â¢s a huge confidence boost if you get your post accepted. Follow the tips above and make it as good as you can before sending it in ââ¬â and make sure you follow any submission guidelines. You might think that you have to already be a big ââ¬Å"nameâ⬠in the writing or blogging world in order to get published, but this simply isnââ¬â¢t true: editors care about the quality of your writing and the professionalism of your approach. If youââ¬â¢re a fiction writer, try entering competitions ââ¬â winning a prize, or even being shortlisted, is a great validation of your work. And if youââ¬â¢re aiming to write for magazines as a freelancer, try sending in fillers or letters to the editor ââ¬â a great first step in making contact and seeing your name in print. Keep Moving Forwards ââ¬â However You Feel Maybe it seems like other writers have far more confidence than you. You see them chatting away at conferences, or you look at their work on big blogs or you read their prize-winning competition entries and you think if only I was as confident as them. Perhaps you already are. Maybe they spent a week screwing up their courage to send in that competition entry, or they had to take a deep breath and conquer their nerves before striking up a conversation with a stranger at that conference. As you write more (regardless of how you feel) and as you put your work out there in the world, youââ¬â¢ll find that you gradually become more confident and comfortable with your writing. Historically, quantitative approaches and methodologies have been the first and foremost choice in the area of professional organizations and management research. The quantitative bias can probably be explained by the origins of modern organizational science which relies heavily on the natural sciences such as mathematics, economics, and sociology. Quantifiability and precision have traditionally been among the most essential features of these sciences and quantitative paradigm was undoubtedly the best choice to maintain and reinforce them (Patton and Appelbaum, 2003: 60). The primary task of a qualitative study is to provide the researcher with data that relates to a specific context or setting, for example, explaining participants' perception of an organization, understand participants' understanding of various phenomena, reveal their experiences, motivations, etc. At the same time, extrapolation of the qualitative study results in other similar situations and contexts is also an important aspect of qualitative research (Hoepfl, 1997). There is a definition of qualitative research found in the literature. Strauss and Corbin (1990) define qualitative research as "any kind of research that produces findings not arrived at by means of statistical procedures or other means of quantification" (p. 17). Denzin and Lincoln (1998) describe qualitative research as "...multi-method in focus, involving an interpretative, naturalistic approach to its subject matter. This means that qualitative researchers study things in their natural settings, attempting to make sense of, or interpret, phenomena in terms of the meanings people bring to them' (Denzin and Lincoln 1998: 3). Cassel and Symon (1994) claim that the most characteristic feature of qualitative research is "...a focus on interpretation rather than quantification, an emphasis on subjectivity rather than objectivity" (p.7). These three definitions identify the basic distinctions between qualitative and quantitative research and highlight the key features of qualitative me thodology mentioned above. It shall be noted though that quantitative and qualitative research shall not be perceived as absolutely antagonistic to each other: "qualitative research usually does use some form of quantification, but statistical forms of analysis are not seen as central" (Mason 1996: 4).

The novel Great Expectations Essay The novel Great Expectations was intended by Charles Dickens as a social commentary on the society of pre-Victorian era England. Through his use of intricate characterisation, narratorial perspectives, comprehensive descriptions and the ironic outcomes, Dickens ridicules and thus reflects many key values and attitudes of that society. He shows the importance of class and the prejudices associated with class, the values of society towards women and the attitudes of individuals, as well as the injustices and arbitrary nature of the justice system. Victorian England was a society that valued class distinctions, and this is clearly shown in Great Expectations by the variety of characters portrayed and the eventual outcomes of their actions. There were many prejudices associated with class. Upper-class people were treated with more courtesy and society had little respect for the lower classes, often treating them as criminals. This prejudice towards the lower classes is clearly evident in Great Expectations. Magwitch tells Pip about his trial with Compeyson. Magwitch had to sell all his clothes to pay for a lawyer and was still given a longer sentence because everyone saw what a gentleman he (Compeyson) looked, and what a wretch I (Magwitch) looked. While the rest of the novel is told through Pips narration, this section is told through the narration of Magwitch. This highlights the situation and arouses sympathy in the responder towards Magwitch. As well, Estellas initial treatment of Pip also shows the prejudices of class. Estella makes fun of Pips appearance; what coarse hands he has, what thick boots, simply because Pip comes from a lower working class background while she has been brought up as a lady. These instances reflect the attitudes of that society towards people of different class backgrounds. A persons class background dictated their life. Money and wealth was valued and dominated life. Yet Dickens portrays his characters to show the startling between the lives of different classes. His depiction of Joe as a man of the working class is in direct contrast with the gentleman characters such as Compeyson and Drummle. Joe is portrayed as a wholesome, hardworking man lacking in material wealth but in possession of a kind heart, Drummle is portrayed as gentleman who are cold, cruel and completely without morals who either beats or cringes. Dickens rewards his characters for their behaviour with what he believes they deserve. Joe was able to lead a comfortable and happy life with Biddy while Compeyson and Drummle met violent ends. This characterisation shows the startling differences in the moral fibre of the different classes, and discredits a popular attitude at the time that upper-class people were more gentile and moral.

Nuclear Disarmament Since the early 1940ââ¬â¢s, two world powers, the U.S. and USSR (currently Russia), have been increasing their nuclear weapons arsenal. In recent years, many other countries, such as: India, Great Britain, France, China, Pakistan, and Israel have begun nuclear stockpiles. Since the Cold War has ended and the USSR collapsed, nuclear weapons have been left unguarded or missing. The effect of this lack of security has raised the worldââ¬â¢s awareness on attempting to control nuclear stockpiles. Also, there are concerns of nuclear power plants producing uranium and plutonium as a by-product; the two fuels are used in producing nuclear devices. Although these nuclear power plants were never meant to produce uranium and plutonium, countries have left it available to civilians for research and testing.1 Nuclear bombs can be a result of this experimenting, which is why some form of disarmament and a system of verification on nuclear control needs to be implemented by government officia ls. Nuclear weapons are explosive devices designed to release nuclear energy on a large scale and are used primarily in military applications. The first atomic bomb, which was tested on July 16, 1945 at Alamogordo, New Mexico, represented a completely new type of artificial explosives. Nuclear explosions involve energy sources within the core or nucleus, of the atom. The atomic bomb gains its power from the splitting, or fission, of all the atomic nuclei in several kilograms of plutonium. A sphere about the size of a baseball produces an explosion equal to 20,000 tons of TNT. This is a large amount of power for a nuclear weapon. The atomic bomb was developed, constructed, and tested during the Manhattan Project. The book CHINESE POLITICAL CULTURE relates to political culture in significantly different ways from the approaches used in other books with similar content. This book touches on many aspects of Chinese political culture; as a result, reading the book gives one a better comprehension of Chinaââ¬â¢s complexity. This collection of essays manages to achieve this aim without losing its unity. The first section of the book explores the modern transformation of Chinese traditional culture and its effect on contemporary political culture. It speaks to the complexity of the issue that the three essays do not agree on whether neo-Confucianism always provides the foundation on which contemporary Chinese political culture can rest. Kam Louie examines the role of Confucianismââ¬â¢s dichotomy between wen [man of letter] and wu [warrior] to emphasize continuities in the patriarchal nature of Chinese society. Roger Ames, from a different perspective, examines the continued relevance of Confucianism among intellectuals in his presentation of the creative use of Kant by noted scholars Mou Zongsan and Li Zehou in their effort to reassert the relevance of the Confucian heritage. Godwin Chu, however, shows that although there are striking continuities between the ways in which the concept of zhong [loyalty] was used in traditional China and during the Maoist period, the individual assertiveness he observes today marks a major break with the past. The second section of the book proceeds to socialization and observes official ideologies. The chapter on nationalism, by Edward Friedman, reminds us that despite the use of a sometimes strident nationalist rhetoric by its leaders, the existence of a Chinese ââ¬Å"nationâ⬠protected by the Party-state remains a long way off, as evidenced by the inability of the government to establish institutions such as the welfare state. The chapter by Zhu Jianhua and Ke Huixin, which addresses the construction of Hong Kong in the minds of Chinese in Gungzhou and Shenzhen, suggests that despite greater exposure to a diversity of opinions, people living next door to Hong Kong still hold distorted views about that territory. Misra Kalpanaââ¬â¢s chapter on the transition from neo-Maoism to neo-conservatism offers to explain this paradox. She argues that the state has successfully shed its orthodox Leninist ideology in favor of neo-conservative nationalism thanks to the recuperation of the neo-conservative discourses emerging in diverse milieus of society. Peter Moody addresses cynicism and indifference to politics in China in his chapter on anti-political tendencies. Moody also warns that the anti-political trends may end up tacitly endorsing the unjust, corrupt political system they claim to reject. The third section enriches these nuances with an additional layer of complexity, by looking into the different variants of Chinese political cultures found among different social strata and regions. Cheng Li looks at the emergence of pluralism among entrepreneurs; Alan Liu at provincial identities; Shih Chih-yu at elections in minority areas of the PRC and Taiwan; Tang Wenfang at religion in China and Taiwan; and ChuYun-han and Chang Yu-tzung at regime legitimacy in China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, through the use of sophisticated survey techniques. This third part of the book may present less coherence, but the case studies succeed in illustrating the diversity of Chinese political culture. My only remark is about Liuââ¬â¢s assertion that Chinese on the mainland, as well as mainlanders living in Taiwan, are displaying lower levels of religiosity, and that higher degrees of modernization reduce religiosity. Not only does this conclusion contrast with most studies on religion in Taiwan, but the data contradicts this statement: Taiwan displays a higher degree of religiosity than China despite its greater degree of modernization. It is also necessary to note that the past two decades has been a period of remarkable growth in China, characterized by economic expansion and the opening of its society to the outside world. What has followed is a better life for many of its citizens. As a result, China supporters from outside its borders have become confident that economic and social progress will eventually lead to a more open political system and consequently more favourable investment conditions. Up until the time when William Blake, William Wordsworth, and David Hume put pen to paper, the most revolutionary lines of thought regarding science and philosophy came from Isaac Newton and John Locke who described humans as passive receivers of a world of set laws ruling passive atoms. Hume pushes this popular understanding of the self to the brink and ends up claiming that one can never comprehend the self. Blake and Wordsworth both vehemently disagree with Hume and believe the self is knowable, however, their views on how to know the self are radically different. Blakeââ¬â¢s idea is that the world comes alive as the mind encounters it and that the self is within, whereas Wordsworth sees the mind coming alive as it encounters nature and in this awakening, the self is found.
